Acoustic guitar lessons – Novi Zagreb
Chords, rhythm and fingerpicking. Learn to accompany the songs you love, alone or with friends.
Why acoustic guitar?
The acoustic guitar is an instrument you can take anywhere: it needs no power, amplifier or cable. A few chords and a strumming rhythm are enough to accompany singing, and once you add fingerpicking, the same guitar sounds like a whole arrangement.
In acoustic guitar lessons we follow the same 10-module programme, with the emphasis on what makes the acoustic guitar special: open chords, rhythms and fingerstyle playing.
What do you learn in acoustic guitar lessons?
Open chords
The basic major and minor chords and smooth changes between them. Start with First guitar chords.Strumming rhythms
A range of strumming patterns and work with a metronome, so a song sounds like a song and not a string of chords.Barre chords
The E-shape and A-shape, which let you play chords all over the neck. On an acoustic they take patience, but they pay off.Fingerstyle
Fingerpicking and arpeggio technique: we put the pick down and pick across the strings for melodic acoustic arrangements.
Acoustic or classical guitar?
They're often confused, and the difference is in the strings. An acoustic guitar has steel strings: it's louder and brighter, which makes it the natural choice for pop, rock and accompanying singing. A classical guitar has nylon strings, which are softer on the fingers, and a wider neck. Everything you learn on one applies to the other. You'll find a detailed comparison in How to choose your first guitar.
The songs you love
We learn through songs, not just exercises. Tell us what you listen to, whether that's Parni valjak, Prljavo kazalište, Bajaga or international rock, and we'll learn the chords and rhythms on the songs you really want to play.
Prices and lesson times

Frequently asked questions about acoustic guitar
Is acoustic guitar hard for beginners?
Steel strings are harder, so your fingers hurt more in the first weeks than on a classical or electric guitar. That passes with regular playing, and after that the acoustic is a very rewarding instrument.
Do I need my own acoustic guitar?
Not for in-person lessons: a guitar is waiting for you in the lesson. For practising at home you'll need your own in time.
Can I switch to electric guitar later?
Yes, and it will be easier than starting from scratch: chords, scales and rhythm are the same. See electric guitar lessons.
Do the lessons include fingerstyle playing?
Yes. Fingerpicking, fingerstyle and arpeggio technique are part of module eight of the programme.
